2018
Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970. The idea was started by Wisconsin State Senator Gaylord Nelson as a way to spread national awareness about the harmful effects of pollution on the environment. Senator Nelson called on the entire country to come together for a day of grassroots action, which resulted in demonstrations across several major cities in the U.S on April 22.
The positive effects of Earth Day were almost immediate. It allowed the green light for a number of important pieces of environmental legislation, including the Clean Air Act and the Water Quality Improvement Act, as well as the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency later that year.
People now celebrate the holiday by volunteering, participating in outdoor activities and supporting eco-friendly retailers.
As their own way to celebrate, retailers like to offer discounts and freebies on everything from apparel to makeup. As an international shopper, it’s easy to join in on the holiday. Use Borderlinx for your Earth Day purchases and ship to your home hassle-free.
A growing number of retailers are becoming more conscious about how their business practices affect the environment. A few of those practices include partnering with eco-friendly brands or creating products made with sustainably sourced materials. Here are few retailers who fit the bill.
Alternative Apparel offers comfortable clothing designed with sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The retailer sells soft tees, pants, dresses, hoodies and more made from organic and recycled materials when available. Bonus: Standard shipping is FREE to the Borderlinx U.S. hub.
House of Marley is proof that personal tech can be made from eco-friendly materials and still deliver high-quality sound. Created from the retailer’s exclusive REWIND™ fabric, recycled plastics, bamboo and other sustainable components, House of Marley specializes in headphones and speakers that deliver superior sound quality.
REI is a great destination before heading out for your next outdoor adventure, but did you know that the retailer goes above and beyond to ensure its retail practices are environmentally sound? A few of those practices include creating energy-efficient stores, selling eco-conscious brands and pledging to become a zero waste-to-landfill organization by 2020.
