In 2009, eBay noticed something interesting: The second Monday in December was its best sales day of the month. The auction site referred to the day as Green Monday, and it didn't take long for other retailers to run with the name and transform it into a shopping holiday. Green Monday falls right around mid December, making it one of the last opportunities to shop in time for Christmas.

Before you deep dive into shopping on December 10, here are a few things to remember.

• Say hello to free shipping. Many retailers will offer free shipping without a minimum purchase required. This is super helpful if you're buying only a few items from a retailer.
• Expect discounts on single items. While retailers will offer discounts site wide, you'll see lots of discounts on select items, especially personal tech.
• Deals can extend past Monday. Retailers will offer one-day-only sales, but it's common for deals to last longer than that. However, we suggest buying as early as possible because when a deal is good, it's gone fast.
• Find the major players. There are a few stores that really pull through on Green Monday. Over the last few years, Walmart, Amazon and eBay have offered some of the most jaw-dropping deals.

This is the final major push from online retailers before the holidays hit. If you spent all of Black Friday and Cyber Monday buying treats for yourself (it's OK, we did too), look for the following categories to finish holiday shopping for friends and family.
